What is PTSD?
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD are serious mental health conditions that can develop after a person experiences or witnesses a traumatic event such as physical or sexual assault, war, natural disasters, or accidents.
The symptoms of PTSD can vary from person to person, but they often include:
- High levels of arousal, irritability, feeling on edge, difficulty relaxing or stopping still
- Flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive thoughts
- Avoidance behaviours – attempts to stay away from reminders of the traumatic event
- Feelings of shame, guilt, anger and sadness
PTSD can affect all aspects of a person’s life, including their work, relationships and physical health. Recovery is possible. Contact us to find out more.
