What to Expect from Seeing a Clinical Psychologist

Therapy

Seeing a clinical psychologist can be an intimidating experience, but it can also be a transformative one. At the Centre for Clinical Psychology, our team of highly trained and experienced psychologists is dedicated to helping you navigate whatever challenges you may be facing and supporting you in reaching your full potential.

When you first come to see us, you can expect to meet with your psychologist for an assessment consultation. This often happens over the first two sessions. It is an opportunity for us to get to know you better, understand your concerns and goals. We will ask you questions about your history, your current situation, and any symptoms you may be experiencing. This will help us to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs.

Depending on your needs, treatment may involve a combination of different approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for depression or mood-related disorders, Schema Therapy for relational issues and stressors, or mindfulness-based interventions for anxiety. Our psychologists are trained in a variety of evidence-based techniques and will work collaboratively with you to find the best approach for your unique situation. At the Centre for Clinical Psychology, we have a special interest in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for treatment of PTSD and other trauma-related disorders.

Throughout your treatment, we will work with you to set goals and track your progress which sometimes involves  you completing questionnaires before each session. We understand that seeking help can be a difficult and vulnerable experience, and we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where you can feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings. A very helpful way for us to understand how to better help you is through your feedback.

At the Centre for Clinical Psychology, we treat a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and more. We work with individuals, couples, and families, and we offer both short-term and long-term therapy options.

If you are considering seeing a clinical psychologist, we encourage you to take the first step and reach out to us. We are here to support you in your journey towards greater wellbeing and a more fulfilling life. We invite you to book an appointment with us at the Centre for Clinical Psychology.
