Julia McCurry

Psychologist, BPsych(Hons), MPsych(Clin)

Julia is a generally registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She has experience working with adults and older adults across a variety of settings, including acute inpatient, community, private practice, and residential aged care, and works with clients across a broad range of presentations.

Through her work in inpatient and community mental health, Julia has supported people with complex, high-risk presentations, often alongside significant trauma histories. Her work is grounded in a trauma-informed framework, with a focus on safety, collaboration, and understanding how past experiences can shape current emotional and behavioural patterns.

Julia’s approach is relational and collaborative, offering warm, non-judgemental care that supports clients toward meaningful and lasting change. She places strong emphasis on creating a safe, trauma-informed space, and has experience helping people navigate concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, trauma, grief and bereavement, physical health concerns, and major life transitions.

In her clinical work, Julia draws on a range of evidence-based therapies, including Schema Therapy (ST), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Her therapeutic style is warm and individualised, and she works alongside clients to strengthen confidence and self-compassion and to build flexible skills for facing life’s challenges. She also brings experience in comprehensive risk assessment and crisis intervention.

Alongside her private practice work, Julia works in public mental health, supporting older adults (aged 65+) experiencing mental health challenges and cognitive impairment across community and residential aged care settings. She has led the development and facilitation of group programs and has contributed to research initiatives in older adult mental health.
